A mobile-first UI refresh of Stan’s website experience

Why
Stan, Australia’s top subscription video on-demand service, needed a website redesign (Stan.com.au) focused on a market-leading mobile experience. Their goals included boosting conversions, improving accessibility and search optimisation, and enhancing the brand. Following Apparent’s in-depth UX research, including strategic research and stakeholder interviews, we created a new creative direction for key pages and a comprehensive design system to guide the remaining website refresh.

The UX and research phase outlined some key issues on the existing Stan website which needed addressing. Notably, users were struggling to answer key questions around the service offering, including pricing, so it was important to bring frequently asked questions onto the homepage. Secondly, it was difficult for users to quickly scan and understand Stan’s content offering, requiring extensive scrolling to fully digest the programming on offer. The team identified this challenges quickly, iterated, refined and tested UX solutions so we could move seamlessly into the UI phase. Lastly, the website was not optimised for a mobile-first approach. We reworked the site from the ground up, ensuring mobile view was our first priority.

We nailed down a fresh creative direction in the design phase and quickly got the mobile UI designs ready for testing. User testing was super important, and we used a fast, iterative approach (RITE) that let us catch and fix up to 80% of the usability issues as we went. Testing before and after each design tweak helped us see what was working and what wasn’t, so we could keep making things better.
